Royals Edge Yankees, Win ALDS

Royals Take Game 5

The Kansas City Royals clinched the American League Division Series with a 3-2 victory over the New York Yankees in Game 5 on Thursday night at Yankee Stadium. The Royals won the series 3-2.

Kansas City starter Yordano Ventura threw 5 2/3 innings and gave up just one run on five hits. Six Royals relievers were outstanding. Danny Duffy recorded the final 11 outs for the save.

Alex Gordon's RBI single drove in Alcides Escobar with the winning run with two outs in the top of the ninth inning.

Royals Come Back from Big Hole

Kansas City trailed 2-0 after four innings, but Lorenzo Cain led off the Kansas City fifth with a double. After Ben Zobrist's groundout moved Cain to third base, Salvador Perez hit an RBI single to cut the Royals' deficit to 2-1.

Christian Colon hit a game-tying, solo home run to lead off the sixth.

MLB.com reports that Perez's single marked the first hit the Royals had off Yankees starter Nathan Eovaldi, who departed in the fifth after throwing 91 pitches and striking out seven.

Royals Advance to ALCS

Kansas City advanced to the American League Championship Series to face the Toronto Blue Jays. Game 1 is scheduled for Friday at Kauffman Stadium.

The Yankees are eliminated from the postseason and will now look ahead to the 2016 season.
